About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The Brazilian Journal of Applied Computing (RBCA) is edited under the responsibility of the Graduate Program in Applied Computing (PPGCA) of University of Passo Fundo and published by Editora UPF. It aims to disseminate national and international scientific productions in the areas of computation applied to agriculture, health, engineering and other areas that need Computing as a tool to solve their problems, also serving as an environment that allows an exchange of experiences and ideas between researchers that operate in these areas of application. The RBCA has a normal periodicity every four months and can serve as a vehicle for the dissemination of works awarded in scientific events through special editions or sections. RBCA, following its policy of free access, does not charge any authors fee for the publication of their articles.
Peer Review Process
RBCA publishes original works in Portuguese and English through its online submission system. The evaluation process is divided into two phases:
Phase 1 - Article Submission Acceptance
In this first stage, the RBCA Editorial Board will evaluate the article submitted according to the following criteria:
- Format: if the article was prepared according to the formatting rules of the journal - example of an article template provided on the journal page in "Guidelines for Authors";
- Number of pages: if it is in accordance with the page limit of the magazine (at least 8 and at most 15 pages);
- Grammatical correctness of the text of the article;
- Bibliographical references updated and derived from vehicles of scientific quality;
- Scientific approach of the article: written articles with a technical approach in the style of a software/site/tool description or technical manual will not be accepted;
- Originality of the article;
- Suitability to the scope of the journal: the theme of the article must be in accordance with the themes accepted by the journal. It is recommended that authors access articles already published in RBCA to check topics that are being accepted on a regular basis for publication.
If the article does not meet all the criteria described above, it will be rejected directly by the Editorial Board. In this case there is no opinion to be sent to the authors, only the information of which or which criteria were not met. If the article is recommended for evaluation by the Editorial Board, it will be forwarded to Phase 2, which consists of the evaluation process carried out by our reviewers.
Phase 2 - Peer Review
All articles in this phase will be evaluated by evaluators who are part of RBCA editorial team, which is composed of professors with recognized competence and experience in the areas of Computer Science and related fields. The evaluators will fill in an opinion on the evaluation that, in addition to issues pre-defined by the journal, should contain a detailed description of the positive and negative aspects of the work, suggesting, as far as possible, changes that aim at improving the quality of the submitted article. The opinions will be sent to the editor of the journal, who will be responsible, with the help of the members of the Editorial Board, to define the results of the evaluation to be sent to the authors (Accepted/Accepted with changes, New revision after making changes or Rejection). All this process is done via the journal system.
Article publishing
The authors of the accepted articles should send the final version of their work to the editor of the journal, following the guidelines that will be sent by e-mail. In this stage, the articles will be prepared for publication, following the RBCA format, defining their publication data (edition, page numbering and DOI) and making the edition available on the journal page. A summary of this submission process is presented in the figure below.
