Abstract

The elderly population is increasing thanks to advances in knowledge and technology in the health field, especially that related to investments in health pública.Com that the profile of morbidity and mortality of the population changes, increasing the prevalence of chronic diseases like hypertension, arthritis, dementia , strokes, coronary diseases, diabetes mellitus and others. Once the elderly patient is consuming more drugs represent an increasing proportion of the consumption of this product, being susceptible to adverse reactions. We performed a literature of exploratory, aiming to analyze the production of articles published in the health of ADRs in elderly patients from January 2000 to December 2008. We conclude that multidisciplinary care can positively influence the adaptation of the disease and the effectiveness of pharmacotherapy. Professional Nursing is connected to the process of education by motivating the elderly and family or caregiver to perform the correct and safe administration of medication. For this, the professional must remain vigilant and informed about the adverse reactions caused by drugs and use methods of teaching and learning that include guidance and information about diagnosis and therapy. In order to make you aware and participating in health maintenance and disease prevention related to drug therapy.
