Abstract

The completion of a physical activity demands the practicing appropriate clothing. Naturally they should be made from light tissues, facilitating the transpiration and good ventilation, contributing with body image biopsychosocial aspects. Body image is the way why our body appears to ourselves. This research found the most common elements of body image from sportswear used by 3ª adult age academics from UFAM, over 60 years old, through interview, with 33 subjects. A fieldwork was made, through a questionnaire. An analysis of content was used according to Bardin and the statistic non parametric. The academics 3ª adult age favorite sportswear: shorts, shirt, t-shirt/blouse, sneakers and long pants. Up to 30 years old, was who never used sportswear, by financial reasons, family and physical activity practicing. There is some resistance about the use of the short, being it the most used by younger people. Initially, the academics were shyness when using such clothing, but with over time they adapted to its use in their social environment. Therefore, it is clear modesty on the use of sportswear that mark more the body. The sportswear served as release, as the incapable labels, made by society, as the family severity. This favored to Body Image development, from the body sensations (pleasure) obtained with sportswear use to physical exercises practice.
