Abstract

Aging is a physiological process, ocurring throughout the body an differentiating itself from the tissues in individuals over 60 years, the oral cavity of the elderly shows a high incidence of caries and periodontal lesions and oral diseases may have implications in other bodies, as the same can not be seen as isolated body. Clinical studies show that periodontal lead the person to be at increased risk of cardiovascular disease and make other sytemic changes when compared with individuals with healthy gums. These periodontal diseases constitue themselves into aserious public health problrm dentistry, are distributed differently on the severity, age and other factors. This study aimed to search the literature articles about the involvement of systemic factors associated with periodontitis in the elderly.
