Abstract

The test of one repetition maximum (1 RM) has been widely used in scientific research of strength training. However, some studies found it difficult reproducibility for this test in the elderly, when they are not seen as methodological care: familiarization, control the speed of implementation and limited number of attempts. Thus, this study aimed to examine the reproducibility of the test of 1 RM. Twenty healthy elderly men (means, 65 years), without any systematic physical training participated as a regular sample. The 1 RM test was performed in the supine straight years and extension of knees. 2 tests were performed, separated by 4 weeks. The procedures for the test included 1 session of familiarization 48 hours before the first test. The results showed that there was significant correlation between the tests with r = 0.99 and 0.97 for the extension of knees and supine, respectively (p <0.0001) and ICC = 0.99 for both years. Our study showed that the 1 RM test is highly reproducible in elderly men.
