Oral production in English involves linguistic, cognitive, and sociocultural factors, including the influence of the mother tongue on language learning. This article aims to analyze the interference of the mother tongue in the oral production of English as a second language according to the perception of teachers and students. The study is grounded in the contributions of Brown (2001; 2006), Krashen and Terrell (1998), Ellis (2015), Bakhtin (2006) and Flege and Bohn (2021). Qualitative and explanatory research, with the generation of empirical data through forms, with the participation of 67 students of intermediate level and six teachers from the Lifelike Idiomas school, in Seara, SC, with content analysis by Bardin (2016). The article is linked to PPGE at Unochapecó and the SULEAR Research Group. The results indicate that, for both groups, the mother tongue influences the development process of oral production of English as a second language.
