The increasing concern regarding rampant consumption and significant waste in the fashion industry has driven interest in the nexus between fashion and sustainability. This study aims to elucidate the Project-Based Learning methodology implemented during the initial phase of the Fashion Design course at UniSenai. The project aimed to create new fashion items from discarded clothes using upcycling techniques. Eighteen discarded clothes, collected and sorted by the Consórcio Intermunicipal do Médio Vale do Itajaí, were sanitized and allocated among nine student groups. The outcomes included the development of fashion products, the calculation of reuse percentages for discarded clothes, and the production of photographs for fashion catalog development. This project enabled students to engage with material valorization, recycling, and conscious usage principles as critical strategies to mitigate environmental impact and achieve differentiation in the market.
