Lower third molars may present a close relation with the inferior alveolar nerve increasing the chances of injury during the surgical act. In view of this, this literature review aims to describe the relationship between the extraction of molars third and the occurrence of inferior alveolar nerve paresthesia resthesia. Paresthesia is a condition that alters the sensitivity of a certain area and can occur as a result of direct trauma to the nerve or compression of the nerve due to hematoma and edema. It leads to discomfort and discomfort, and it is important for the professional to attend to the correct, judicious planning and to make use of complementary exams. If paraesthesia occurs, medical, laser or surgical treatments are used, with positive long-term results and reversal of the case.
