Fracture resistance of bovine roots using two different prefabricated posts

The aim of this work was to evaluate the fracture resistance of restored roots with unitary prosthesis and core, comparing two types of prefabricated posts: metallic and glass-fiber. Twenty bovine incisors were selected, sectioned to the 17 mm of the root apex, treated endodontically and assigned to two experimental groups: Gl- parallel glass-fiber post with tapered apical area (#3 Fibrekor-post System, Jeneric Pentron); G2- threaded parallel metallic post with tapered apical area (#3 Flexi-post, EDS). Both groups were restored with core in composite resin and unitary metallic crowns. The samples were positioned to 135° in relation to ferrule of EMIC test machine, for oblique compression test to speed 0,5 mm/min. The data were submitted to analysis of variance not presenting statistically difference at the significance level of 5%. The contrast test t student presented t = 2,542, no significant and c.v. = 10,9215. It was possible to conclude that there was not difference among prefabricated metallic or glass-fiber posts, when associated to core of composite resin, on the fracture resistance of bovine roots restored with metallic unitary prostheses.
