Abstract

Despite being a benign tumor, the ameloblastoma is usually highly invasive and its surgical removal may lead to structural losses and also biomechanical difficulties for stabilization of prosthetic devices manufactured at a later stage. In addition to the indication of frequent follow-up, postsurgical treatment of ameloblastoma requires prosthetic treatment. Prosthetic rehabilitation of the patient intends to repair the mutilation of the face and/or adjacent structures (if present), allowing to reestablish their functions and quality of life. The success of prosthetic rehabilitation depends on the proper selection of materials and techniques specific for each particular case. This paper reports the fabrication of an obturator prosthesis indicated to repair an extensive maxillary defect, secondary to resection of an ameloblastoma at this region. Key words: Ameloblastoma. Prosthetic rehabilitation. Odontogenic tumour.
