Pregnants perception about their bucal healthy

Pregnancy is a period of great physiological and psychological changes, being necessary an adaptation of all woman’s body to this new condition. The objective of this study is to describe the knowledge of pregnant women about the buccal alterations occured in this period, as well as to verify the facts related to their belief that pregnancy increases the number of dental caries. Then, a sample of 76 pregnants was obtained in Belo Horizonte-MG, in 2005 to accomplish that. A semi-structured questionnaire, which approaches socio-demographic features, economic, behaviour and knowledge in buccal health, was applied to the pregnants. An analysis of the results showed that most of the interviewed pregnants believed that pregnancy might cause caries, and the fact that pregnants do not know about the relation between caries and pregnancy cam be found in different socio-economicand educational conditions.
