Abstract

The management of patients, users of acetylsalicylic acid or oral anticoagulants, who need oral surgery is controversial. For this reason, it was decided to review the literature in order to study the influence of these drugs in maxillo- facial surgery. It is cautious to inter- rupt the use of acetylsalicylic acid at least 5 days before an elective surgery. In patients using oral anti- coagulants, which constitutes a high risk population, thromboembolism occurrence following drug inter- ruption is higher than hemorrhagic complications while using the drug, which makes the maintenance of therapy recommendable. Key words: acetylsalicylic acid, oral anticoagulant, oral surgery.
