Photodynamic therapy in endodontics - review of literature

Abstract

The persistence of remaining microorganisms to either chemical-mechanical preparation or intracanal medication is reported as the main failure cause in endodontics. Objective: The present study aims at discussing the principal factors that involve the photodynamic therapy as well as its application in the endodontic treatment through a literature review. Literature review and final considerations: The photodynamic therapy has risen as a promising antimicrobian therapy as a support to endodontic treatment. As it is easily and quickly applied, it can be used both in a single session or in multiple ones, besides not allowing forms of microbian resistance. Key words: Endodontics. Photodynamic therapy.
