Abstract

The purpose of this research was to evaluate by the PSR (Periodontal Screenning and Recording) perio- dontal conditions found in patients who received a complete clinical treatment. The index was applied in 42 patients of both sexes, before and after the treatment. With a pro- be especially suggested by (WHO 621), the code 0 – 4 (bleeding, cal- culus and deep pocket) were attri- buted to each sextant, being or not associated to an asterisk (*) (reces- sion, invasion of furcation, mobility or mucogingival modification). The code (*) was identified in about 57% of the subjects in the first examina- tions and 31% in the last one, with a high reduction in both groups. The prevailing codes, according to the subject and in the same pro- portions, were observed in the first examinations, in the respective age groups 19-34, 2 and 3 (33%) and 35-61 years old 3* and 4* (26%); after the treatment the prevalence was of codes 1 and 2 (40%), in the same proportions and 1 (53%). The conclusion was that there was a re- duction of treatment needs in 73% (19 – 34 years old) and 48% (35 – 61 years old), even though no case had been completely treated; among the patients with a type-4 treatment need (48%), only 14% of the sub- jects finished the treatment with such codes, despite being treated by general practitioners. Key words: clinical diagnosis, den- tal plaque, oral hygiene, periodon- tal index, treatment results.
