Cherubism is a type of a be- nign fiber-bone dysplasia in which proliferative lesions insi- de the jaws cause a progressive and painless expansion of them. The aim of this study was to do a literature review on cherubism, emphasizing aspects about its clinical, etiological, histopatho- logical and radiographic charac- teristics, differential diagnosis, treatment forms and prognostic. It is also reported a clinical case of a patient, carrier of Ramon’s Syndrome (cherubism, fibromato- sis, gingival fibromatosis, mental deficiency, epilepsy and hypertri- chosis) who underwent several dental extractions. We hope to contribute for the popularization of this pathology in the medi- cal and dental area, in order to point out the necessary care du- ring surgical procedures and to emphasize the importance of the dentist inclusion in the multidis- ciplinary team when s/he may act with patients with special needs, since precarious oral health is an aggravating difficulty to the patient’s systemic conditions. Key words: cherubism, Ramon syndrome, gingival fibromatosis.Downloads
