The incompatibility of alkaline materials with the methylene blue ink solution has been demonstrated when used in marginal leakage tests. The aim of this study was to evaluate the apical sealing ability of re- trofilling materials, using Rodamine B ink solution. Forty-five extracted human ca- nines were used. The root canals were instrumented and filled. Af- ter root apical section, retrograde cavities were prepared and the te- eth were randomly divided into 3 experimental groups (n=13) and 2 control ones (n=3). The following retrofilling materials were used: group 1- zinc oxide and eugenol cement (ZOE); group 2- Pro Root MTA (Dentsply); group 3- MTA - Angelus of fast cure. Then, the teeth were immersed in 0.2% Rho- damine B solution for 48 hours in vacuum environment. After this period, the roots were longitudi- nally sectioned and the leakage was analyzed using a profile pro- jector. Positive and negative con- trol groups presented maximum and zero leakage, respectively. The results were submitted to statistical analysis showing that ZOE and the materials based on MTA showed similar sealing abili- ty (p>0,05). It was concluded that ZOE and materials based on MTA were similar when evaluated in Rhodamine B solution. Key words: endodontic surgery; retrofilling; mineral trioxide ag- gregate.Downloads
