Impacto psicossocial da estética dentária e tratamento odontológico

A busca constante pela estética do sorriso tem aumentado significativamente o número de pacientes que procuram por tratamentos estéticos. O objetivo do estudo foi analisar o impacto psicossocial da estética dentária e do tratamento odontológico de pacientes adultos. A população alvo foram os pacientes com idades entre 18 e 60 anos atendidos na clínica odontológica universitária. Os participantes assinaram um Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido para formar parte da amostra e preencheram um questionário com informações sociodemográficas, relacionadas ao tratamento odontológico e influência psicológica e social da estética dentaria (PIDAQ). A pesquisa foi aprovada pelo Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa (parecer número: 2.752.147). Informações relacionadas a saúde bucal e tratamento odontológico foram coletadas a partir do prontuário de cada paciente. As análises estatísticas foram descritivas no software STATA, versão 12.0. Caracterizaram os participantes da pesquisa, atendidos nas clinicas odontológicas mulheres, jovens de baixa renda, que apresentavam alta prevalência de carie, má-oclusão e edentulismo. O impacto psicossocial na maioria dos pacientes foi baixa. Já os componentes de impacto social autoconfiança dental e preocupação estética foram médios e alto. A presença de carie, ausência dentaria e má oclusão foi alta nesta população. A preocupação estética devido a problemas dentários impactou aspectos sociais, de preocupação estética e autoconfiança dental.
