Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the bond strength of orthodontics brackets to dental enamel using different adhesive systems. Hypotheses: there is no difference in the bond strength of orthodontics brackets to enamel between the adhesive systems tested. For union test, fifty first superior premolars human teeth were put into acrylic resin and divided into five groups: G1 (control): Scotchbond Multi-PurposeTM (3M ESPE); G2: ExciteTM (IvoclarVivadent); G3: Clearfil SE BondTM (Kuraray); G4: Single BondTM (3M ESPE); G5: Xeno IIITM (Dentsply). Each adhesive system was applied into enamel in agreement with the recommendations of each manufacturer. The photopolimerizer composite resin MorelliTM (Orthobond Morelli) was used to glue the orthodontics brackets (AbzilTM). After 24 hours in destilated water at 37 °C, the specimes were submitted to tension essay in the universal essay machine, formula T = F/A e submitted to Anova/Newman-Keuls test, showing statistic difference in 1% lewel. The means and averages, in MPa, were: G1 = 4,63 (± 0,76)a; G2 = 4,80 (± 0,81)a; G3 = 3,76 (± 0,54)b; G4 = 3,69 (± 0,79)b; G5 = 3,34 (± 0,61)b. The orthodontics brackets glued with Excite and Scotchbond Multi-Purpose showed significantly higher union resistance than that which were glued with Clearfil SE BondTM, Single BondTM and Xeno IIITM, rejecting the hypotheses in study.
