Abstract

The search for a perfect smile has demanded a major development of composite resin and adhesive systems to obtain better aesthetic restorations. Due to the improvement of their chemical and mechanical properties the composite resin became widely used in posterior restorations. Faster treatments, associated with relative low cost and excellent performance of composite resins have definitively contributed to their success. Therefore, the practitioner must be informed about the possibilities and adequate indications to use composite resin in posterior teeth in order to provide the patient’s expectations and obtain clinical success, since its use is not indicated to all kinds of restoration. The objective of this study was to report a clinical case of dental caries in posterior teeth which were restored with composite resin. The treatment was accomplished at the Restorative Dentistry Clinic in the Federal University of Santa Maria in a 12 years old male patient.
