Abstract

The obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) is a complete and/ or partial obstruction of upper airways, resulting in absence (apnea) or reduction (hypopnea) of the flow of air into the lungs during sleep, causing a deterioration of one's quality of life. Treatment with intraoral appliances has recently gained importance through research that demonstrate the efficiency of the devices, which have specific characteristics and the correct positioning of the dental surgeon facing the problem of multidisciplinarity. The present case concerns patient MMPK, 64 years old, with moderate OHSAS, presented to the ATM SERVICE Service of Diagnosis and Orientation for patients with temporomandibular disorders in the Faculty of Dentistry / UFJF nov./2008 with the following symptoms: sleepiness and daytime tiredness, snoring, insufficient night's sleep, waking up several times at night, morning headaches and neck pain, which treatment modality was the intraoral mandibular locator appliance.
