Abstract

Objective: Learning, from the reports of surgeon-den- tists (CDs) working in Primary (AB) from João Pessoa, the motivations to work at AB, the profile required for the CD that works in AB; and perception on the poli- cies of the National Health System (SUS) for Oral Health in AB. Methods: Were interviewed 22 CDs of AB from João Pessoa, selected by lottery. The interviews, audio- recorded, were transcribed and analyzed qualitatively according to the methodology of Discourse Collective Subject. Results: Speeches obtained: Motivation to work in AB – “My motivation was to work with public health and promote a Preventive dentistry, and the certainty of a fixed salary”. Profile Dentist in AB – “The dentist of AB should be a good general practitioner, understand the workings of primary care, be humanized and meet the user in full. Must know how to work as a team and take actions preventive”. Opinion about policies for health care to AB – “In theory, I think which are very efficient but are still too tied to figures and indicators. The appli- cability of these policies often is compromised by lack of professionals and lack of human and financial resour- ces”. Conclusions: As motivation to work in AB, respon- dents highlighted the financial stability and affinity with the work in public health. Regarding the profile of the CD in AB valued features that meet the principles of the SUS. On policies for health care to AB, consider limiting aspects bureaucratic, financial and human resources.
