Abstract

Objective: To report a clinical case of Localized Juvenile Spongiotic Gingival Hyperplasia (LJSGH), also known as juvenile spongiotic gingivitis, and to emphasize the importance of its clinical recognition and histopathological diagnosis by correlating the clinical findings with the scientific literature. Case Report: A 16-year-old systemically healthy female patient was treated at the UCEFF Dental Clinic presenting with an erythematous lesion located in the gingival region of teeth #13 and #14, with clinical features compatible with Localized Juvenile Spongiotic Gingival Hyperplasia. After clinical evaluation, an excisional biopsy was performed, and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis. Postoperative follow-up demonstrated satisfactory healing and no signs of recurrence during the observation period. In parallel, an integrative literature review was conducted to correlate the clinical and histopathological findings of the case with the available scientific evidence. Conclusion: Localized Juvenile Spongiotic Gingival Hyperplasia is a rare, benign condition that is often difficult to recognize clinically and may be mistaken for other gingival lesions. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis, histopathological confirmation, and excisional biopsy as both a diagnostic and therapeutic approach for localized lesions, contributing to appropriate clinical management.
