Abstract

Oral hemangioma is a benign vascular lesion characterized by the proliferation of endothelial cells, which may exhibit progressive growth and a risk of bleeding, in addition to possible functional and esthetic impairments. Sclerotherapy with 5% monoethanolamine oleate has proven to be a safe and effective alternative for the treatment of oral hemangioma, providing satisfactory clinical, esthetic, and functional outcomes and restoring the patient's quality of life. Objective: The present study aimed to report a clinical case of oral hemangioma located on the dorsal surface of the tongue in a young patient, treated with sclerotherapy using 5% monoethanolamine oleate. Case Report: A 16-year-old male patient presented with a nodular lesion on the left side of the dorsal surface of the tongue (approximately 1.5 cm in diameter). The diagnosis was established through clinical evaluation and semiotechnical maneuvers, such as vitropression. Complete regression of the lesion required seven intralesional applications of 5% monoethanolamine oleate at regular intervals. Complete regression of the lesion, as well as esthetic and functional improvement, was observed. Conclusion: Thus, it can be concluded that sclerotherapy proved to be a conservative, safe, and easily performed therapeutic alternative for the management of oral vascular lesions, contributing to satisfactory clinical and functional outcomes.
