Abstract

Objective: To evaluate university students’ perception of their knowledge regarding the fabrication of bruxism splints before and after participating in the bruxism splint extension program. Methods: This was a quantitative, prospective, and analytical observational study involving a sample of 40 dental students who participated in the bruxism splint extension course. Data were collected through an online questionnaire created by the authors and distributed via the course’s WhatsApp group. A 5% significance level was adopted for statistical analysis. Results were presented using absolute and relative distributions (n - %), measures of central tendency (mean and median), and measures of variability (standard deviation and range). Comparisons of continuous variables between two independent groups were performed using the Student’s t-test and the Mann-Whitney test. In cases where the variable showed an asymmetric distribution, the Kruskal-Wallis test with Dunn’s post hoc and One-Way ANOVA were applied. Results: Statistically significant differences were found for all questions, indicating an overall improvement in the students’ perception of their knowledge after completing the extension course. Conclusion: By assessing the learning outcomes of students who attended the extension course on bruxism splint fabrication, it was possible to identify gaps in teaching and propose adjustments for future editions of the program.
