ESPORTE E MODERNIDADE
UMA ANÁLISE COMPARADA DA EXPERIÊNCIA ESPORTIVA NO RIO DE JANEIRO DE PEREIRA PASSOS (1902-1906) E NA SALVADOR DE J. J. SEABRA (1912-1916)

This study aimed to comparatively analyze the relationship between the construction of modernity projects and the conformation of the sports field in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador, in the context of the Pereira Passos (1902-1906) and J. J. Seabra (1912-1916) governments, respectively. The investigation is justified because they are two historically important cities for the country, as well as the lack of related studies. Thus, comparative analysis is the most original aspect of this text. Os sources to investigate, we examined daily newspapers, as well as some magazine, work already consolidated and published in the area. In conclusion, we identified that in Rio de Janeiro the sports field developed in broad relation with the modernization process, while in Bahia this relationship was less significant, implying less sports development.
