Resumen

O recrutamento militar em Portugal e suas colônias era normalmente feito entre os desclassificados da sociedade de forma compulsória, uma vez que o serviço militar não garantia prestígio nem a certeza do pagamento em dia dos soldos. Tendo em vista essa situa-ção, a deserção era o único meio de fuga do serviço militar, uma vez que a baixa somente poderia ser concedida pelo rei. Este artigo analisa o problema da deserção nas guarnições da Colônia do Sacramento e Rio Grande no século XVIII.Palavras-chave: História militar. Re-crutamento. Deserção.
