Abstract

Hace 50 años, Estados Unidos descu-brió que la Unión Soviética estaba ins-talando en Cuba misiles con capacidad nuclear y se disparó un conflicto que tuvo en vilo al mundo entero. Washing-ton apeló al sistema interamericano para reaccionar inmediatamente a tra-vés de un bloqueo naval a la isla cari-beña. ¿Cómo reaccionó Argentina ante la crisis, durante la fugaz presidencia de José María Guido? Fuertemente condicionado por los militares que habían depuesto a Frondizi, entre otras cuestiones por su escaso compromiso en la lucha contra el gobierno de Fidel Castro, la Casa Rosada planteó un nuevo vínculo con Washington. Por pri-mera vez, Argentina envió dos buques de guerra al Caribe, sobreactuando su “solidaridad” con Estados Unidos. Esta nueva posición diferenció a Argentina de Brasil y México y permitió a la Casa Blanca reposicionarse en la región. Palabras clave: Argentina-Estados Unidos. Crisis misiles. OEA
