O antigo município de Soledade compreendia extensa região basicamente situada entre os rios Jacuí e Taquari, no norte do Rio Grande do Sul. No pre-sente artigo, busca-se caracterizar a estrutura agrária dessa região ao longo do século 19. Destacam-se dados acerca das formas de exploração da terra ali praticadas, os tipos de mão-de-obra e as relações vividas entre proprietários e não-proprietários, bem como suas consequências.
