Resumo

As instruções de João Francisco Vieira Braga (conde de Piratini), repassadas ao capataz da estância da Música, João Fernandes da Silva, compiladas pelo historiador e literato mineiro Guilhermino César no livro O conde de Piratini e a estância da Música: administração de um latifúndio rio-grandense em 1832, trata-se de importante documento sobre a economia pastoril su-lina do século 18, sobretudo no referente aos trabalhadores responsáveis pela execução das tarefas numa estância – capatazes, peões e cativos. O presente artigo propõe-se a uma revisão crítica das instruções objetivando uma com-preensão daquele contexto, sobretudo no referente ao mundo do trabalho na estância da Música.
