Resumo

Este artigo analisa episódios conflituosos entre imigrantes europeus e nacionais em regiões de colonização no centro do Rio Grande do Sul, do final do século XIX ao início do XX. A partir de processos-crime, é possível perceber a superioridade racial que os europeus acreditavam possuir em relação aos negros e às formas encontradas pelos primeiros para expressar essa diferença étnica. Determinados tipos de punições eram aplicadas exclusivamente em indivíduos considerados de condição social inferior, configurando-se, para os europeus, uma maneira legítima de demarcar privilégios e estabelecer superioridade de alguns sobre os outros.Palavras-chave: Imigrantes europeus.
