Abstract

O artigo reconstitui o processo de consolidação da relação franco-brasileira entre 1997 e 1999. Considera que a visita de estado do presidente Jacques Chirac ao Brasil em março de 1997, após a visita de estado do presidente Fernando Henrique Cardoso à França em maio de 1996, contribuiu fortemente para essa consolidação. Indica que após 1997 ocorreria, portanto, maior interação entre autoridades francesas e brasileiras. E demonstra que o encontro entre os chanceleres dos dois países em 1999 foi o momento o momento final da estruturação do relacionamento bilateral.
