Abstract

The collapse of precast columns in constructive stages, although there aren’t verification requirements in the current standards, may cause huge consequences in case of its occurrence.  This article aims to evaluate the elastic stability of precast columns during constructive stages using the Rayleigh-Ritz method. It’s also studied the contribution of the guy cables to the increase of the load capacity of the precast columns, as well as the effects that the angle of inclination of the guy cables, the position in which the guy cable is fixated and the prestress tension of the cables may cause to that load capacity. Curves relating the critical tension and the slenderness of columns with constant transversal area are plotted, evaluating the parameters that are being analyzed. Finally, a case study of a column with change of transversal section is performed, in which a parametric evaluation of the studied factors is also performed.
