Composite Bridges are built with great recurrence in the national and world scenario. Brazil faces an aging reality of the structures that make up its infrastructure, including bridges, which need immediate rehabilitation and readjustment. Until recently, these projects were based on the NBR 8800 standard. However, this context was changed by the launch of NBR 16694 in 2020, which centralizes the concepts and procedures for the analytical dimensioning of mixed bridges. Whether designing a new bridge or a rehabilitation project, analyzes through numerical models using the finite element method (FEM) are increasingly common. Therefore, a question that arises is whether finite element analysis is only complementary or can it replace the analytical approach? In order to answer this question, this paper presents a case study of the project for the adaptation and reinforcement of the bridge in mixed structures over the Arataú River on BR230/PA. The results obtained show that the model with frame bars associated with an analytical approach with normative criteria has limitations regarding the prediction of displacements and stresses for this type of structure.
