Abstract

With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT), several communication technologies emerged to enable the exchange ofinformation between devices. With the most diverse application areas, the IoT is being used in transport, industry, homeautomation, among others. In agriculture, this contribution is also present due to the search for better quality, higherproductivity and less use of agrochemicals. Today, security, installation, and reliability are becoming more importantin wireless communications, thus leading LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) networks. With great potentialfor applicability in agriculture, LPWAN technologies such as LoRa and its LoRaWAN protocol are being used more andmore. Some limits of this technology, such as the non-availability of hops between devices, raises the need for a deviceto fill this gap. Thus, it is necessary to develop a device capable of forwarding LoRaWAN packets in a transparent way. This work presents the development of a low cost and transparent device for LoRaWAN networks capable of relayingmessages across multiple hops, thus increasing the network reach.
