Abstract

Assistive Technologies (AT) based on Artificial Intelligence and IoT (AIoT) can provide efficient solutions for people with some type of disability or degenerative disease. These solutions seek to reduce the barriers encountered daily by these people, in addition to making possible a healthier, independent, and productive life. This topic has been extensively explored in the literature, with a 35 \% increase in research on this topic in the last year, considering the bases surveyed in this work. Despite the use of these technologies showing promise to improve the quality of life of these people, there is still some difficulty for these solutions to reach the target audience at an affordable price. In this sense, this work aimed to provide the state of the art on this topic, identifying important gaps in existing approaches, as well as guiding future research. To achieve this objective, studies published in journals from five relevant databases were collected and analyzed, and 83 primary studies were selected presenting models, prototypes, and integration solutions between TA and AIoT. The survey results point to the increasing use of ATs based on AIoT; highlighting the greater concentration of research on disabilities, rather than degenerative diseases.
