Abstract

Brazil is one of the countries that most detach itself for one of the world highest taxes of population age. The age conducts to systematic physiological losses, including postural modifications and breathing damages, considered big problems to elderly people. This study had as objective verify the influence of postural modifications in breathing muscular strength, thoracic mobility and in column/pelvis in healthy elderly people. Completed the study 16 elders in the age groups from 65 to 75 years, of female and male gender, sedentary, residents in Luiz Fogliatto quarter from the city of Ijuí. They were submitted to a postural evaluation, accomplished by the angle cinematic analysis (computerized Biofotogrametria) evaluation of the breathing muscular strength, thoracic expansibility and mobility. Through the statistics analysis, utilizing the qui-quadrate test, it was noticed that superior column’s region, regarding to the thoracic column, presented a significant postural implications (p<0,05) in relation to the other regions. It was noticed an average degree of correlation between the superior column and the maxim breathing pressure (p>0,05). It was verified a strong inverse correlation (p<0,01) between the pelvis/haunch with the angular measure RCMD that corresponds to the posture of lower/haunch trunk in rotation to the right. As for the thoracic expansibility, it was noticed that individuals with grater expansibility in axillar region tend to present grater inspiratória pressure, correlation highly significant (p<0,01), lineal inverse correlation (p<0,05) between the angular relation formed between the position of the head and the shoulder (RCOD) and the thoracic expansibility in axillar region (p<0,05) and mammillae (p<0,01) signifying respectively that individuals with grater expansibility tend to present minor rotation of the superior trunk. It is concluded that postural modifications in the elders of the sample are more located in the region of the superior column (thoracic) and are associated with reduction of thoracic expansibility and with reduction of column/pelvis mobility.
