Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate, by means of BHI Agar diffusion method, the anti-microbial action of four calcium hydroxide-based formulations as intracanal medication. Therefore, three microbial groups were used: Enterococcus faecalis, Bacillus subtilis and Candida albicans. Based on the analysis of the results, by means of the Kruskal-Wallis statistical test, complemented by the multiple comparisons test, to a significance level of 5%, it was found that the Calen™ , with or without PMCC and Hydrocal™ without iodoform, showed no antimicrobial activity against the 3 cultures used, not showing statistical difference. The Hydrocal™ with iodoform did not act against the cultures of Candida albicans and Enterococcus faecalis, but against Bacillus subtilis only. Key words: Endodontics. Drug resistance. Microbial. Calcium hydroxide.
