Abstract

Currently, Implantology has been showed as a therapeutic modality with elevated index of success, since the basic criteria of planning are observed. Non observance of these criteria can result in a surgical complication, not expected, that is an accidental displacement of instruments into the maxillary sinus. The aim of this study is to relate a clinical case in which a parallelometer, accidentally displaced into maxillary sinus, was surgically removed by the Caldwell-Luc technique. The clinical aspects that favour this kind of complication and the relevant care on the prevention of this accident are also approached and discussed. Key words: Surgery. Complications. Maxillary sinus. Dental implants.
