Abstract

A great number of traditional studies have been used, since the beginning of the XIX century as a base of moulding practice in prosthesis. The aim of this study was to review the concepts, definitions, indications and the philosophy of prosthesis. The aim of each philosophy described in literature and the indication of several impression materials will be presented and discussed, in order to show the clinician moulding methods relatively simple. The impression materials currently available in the dentistry market fully attend the clinical requests and the patient’s requirements. Consequently, their selection should be based on the clinical conditions and on the professional preference. More important than the impression material selection, is how and when to use it, following the preference and ability of each professional. Key words: Complete dentures. Impression. Impression materials.
