The aim of this study was to verify the effect of the compound immersion in peracetic acid 0,2% in the properties of flow and detail maintenance of this moulding material, when softened in the microwave. For the flow trial, 28 specimens of type I impression compound were made, from which 14 were submitted to the flow trial at a temperature of 37 °C, and the other 14, at a temperature of 45 °C. To the details maintenance trial, 12 specimens of impression compound were made that, after molding were poured in special gypsum type IV, and submitted to an evaluation. The specimens for both trials were divided into two groups: the control one and the one immersed in peracetic acid 0,2%, for ten minutes. The flow trial verified that both groups attended the American Dental specification (ADS), since in the experimental group, the flow at 37 °C was of 2,94% (± 1,51) and at 45 °C was of 96,36% (± 16,06), and in the control group, at 37 °C, was of 3,98% (± 1,8), and at 45 °C was of 103,31% (± 14,29). Regarding the details maintenance, the experimental and control groups reproduced, on average, 39,17 mm and 42,67 mm, respectively,of the 45 mm medium line. The results showed that the immersion in peracetic acid 0,2 % did not alter the approved situation of the flow properties and details maintenance; this fact shows the viability of the disinfection process proposed to the impression compound, considering the properties analized. Key words: Impression compound. Peracetic acid. Disinfection.Downloads
