In this work, the periodontal conditions and treatment needs were analyzed from a convenience sample of 219 industry workers from the city of Passo Fundo, RS, aging from 15 to 64, submitted to a clinical examination in relation to oral hygiene and periodontal conditions. For the analysis, the CPITN was used, which was, de- veloped by the IDF/WHO, 1978. In the analysis of the results, conside- ring the number and percentage of industry workers, the healthy ones and those who showed periodontal disease, according to the CPITN, there was a higher prevalence of bleeding on probing (22,52%) and calculus (39,95%) – codes 1 and 2, respectively. Sound teeth (code 0) and moderate pockets (code 3) showed almost similar statistical numbers (14,15% e 14,76%, res- pectively), while the lowest pre- valence was for deep pockets (code 4), with a total of 8,59%. This makes evident the prevalence of inflammatory periodontal disease over the destructive one, showing that the general practitioner may give attention to the majority of the treatment needs. Key words: periodontal disea- se, CPITN, industry workers.Downloads
