Abstract

This study evaluated the adap- tation of complete maxillary den- ture bases under the effect of the post-pressing time (immediate and 24 hours). The bases were made of Classico heat cured acrylic resin, polymerized in water bathe at 74 °C for 9 hours. The casts were made with type III plaster stone and the bases, with two 0.9 mm wax plates. Then, the bases were processed by the routine techni- que, the stone cast and the resin bases were fixed with instanta- neous adhesive and then trans- versally sectioned in three zones corresponding to the distal region of canine (A), mesial of first molars (B), and posterior palatal region (C). The adaptation level was me- asured in a linear microscope STM (Olimpus). The data were submit- ted to the ANOVA and Tukey’s test (5%). The results showed that the mean value at the immediate post- pressing time (T0) (0.257 mm) was statistically different (p<0.05) from the levels of adaptation at the post-pressing time of 24 hours (T24) (0.025 mm). Key words: denture base, post- pressing, adaptation, acrylic re- sin.
