Effect of toothbrushing with fluorated dentifrices on composite resin surface hardness

Abstract

The aim ofthis study was to evaluate the infl uence of brushing using commercial dentifrices on the Knoop hardness of dental resin composites. The samples were light cured with a Visilux 2 unit for 40 seconds, polished with Sof-Lex disks (3M Dental Products) and brushed with Kolynos (Anakol), Colgate (Colgate-Palmolive) and Tandy (Anakol) dentrifices. After each procedure the Knoop hardness was measured. Z 100 showed higher hardness values than the Silux Plus. The knoop hardness values were higher after using Kolynos toothpaste than after using either Colgate or Tandy. Key words: composite resm, dentifrices, hardness.
