Clinical manifestations attributed to the eruption of deciduos teeth – perception and attitude of parents

Abstract

Objective: The objective of this work was to evaluate the perception of mothers/responsible as for the existence of children’s local/systemic manifestations during deciduous teeth eruptions, as well as verifying their attitudes in the presence of these symptoms. Methods: A transversal exploratory study was accomplished, with 145 parents of children aging between four months and three years old. The data collection was achieved through a structured questionnaire, with questions about the signs and symptoms related to the eruption and the attitudes taken by the parents. Results: From the total of interviewees, 130 (89.65%) mentioned the presence of the symptoms during dental eruption. The most frequent alterations were irritability (80.76%) and fever (74.61%), and the least frequent were influenza (23.84%) and runny nose (22.3%). Among the attitudes taken by the parents, visiting the pediatrician was the most common (56.92%), and the least mentioned was the simultaneous search for a pediatrician and a pediatric dentist (6%). Conclusion: Before the results, it can be concluded that during the eruption of deciduous teeth, local and/or systemic signs and symptoms are observed by the mothers, where the doctors are the professionals who are most commonly seen in these situations.
