The use of Fuji IX glass ionomer cement in the Atraumatic Restorative Technique (ART) in deciduos teeth.

Abstract

The new and practical Atraumatic Restorative Technique (ART)uses the glass ionomer cement on carious dentin. Fuji IX glass ionomer cement (GC Corporation) was specially manufactured to be the material of choice for this technique. The application of the ART has been considered in Brazil due to some reasons, such as: (1) the high caries activity rate among children; (2) the difficulty on handling the patients; and (3) the need for a quick treatment, mainly because the long patient waiting list. However, it is essential to improve the knowledge about the ART and on material properties to really apply this concept. The purpose of this paper is to describe the ART with a clinical case.
