Caries is a multifactorial disease in which transmissibility plays a major role. A literature review was conducted to explain the correlation between the presence of microorganisms and the development of caries disease. It has been shown that it is difficult to avoid the transmission of cariogenic microorganisms from mother to infant. However, it is possible to maintain a satisfactory infant's oral health if educational and preventive actions are learned by the mothers. Key words: caries disease, cariogenic microorganisms, transmissibility.Downloads
