Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the diametral tensile strength between a type IV dental stone and improved dye materials. In this study, 30 samples were made using a bi-parted cylindrical mould with 6 mm in diameter and 3 mm high with Vel MixTM (Kerr), Tuff RockTM (Talladium) and Fiji Rock EPTM (GC Europe). Every mate- rial was manipulated according to manufactures’ specifications. After dye materials manipulation, they were poured into the mould under vibration and stored for 24 hours. After that, diametral strength tes- ting was conducted in an universal testing machine (EMIC DL 2000) with 0,5 mm/min of cross-head spe- ed in compression way until fractu- re occurred. The maximum streng- th was obtained in Newton and transformed into MPa. Data were submitted to ANOVA/Tukey (p < 0,05). The results were: Fuji Rock EPTM b (8,48 MPa), Tuff RockTM b (7,91 MPa) and Vel MixTM a (5,09 MPa). The lower diametral tensile strength was observed in Vel MixTM group; Tuff RockTM and Fuji Rock EPTM groups showed the highest average, but without statistical di- fference between each other. Key words: dental stone, diametral tensile.
