The objective of this experi- ment was to evaluate the erosive potential of powdered juices, soft drinks, sport drinks, and canned teas available on the Brazilian market. We evaluated 30 trades of powdered juices (j), 11 sport drinks (sp), 22 soft drinks (so) and 7 can- ned tea (t). Acid titrability and pH measurements were performed for each of the different beverages. ANOVA and Tukey post hoc tests were used to detect any significant differences among groups. The pHs were always lower than 3.9. The amount of NaOH, necessary to neutralise the solutions, was always lower than 8.3 mL. Mean pH of group t was significantly higher than mean pH of groups j and sp. Acid titrability was signi- ficantly higher in group j than in groups sp, so and t; and acid titra- bility was significantly higher in group so than in group t. It may be concluded that, considering that the critical pH to dissolute enamel is 5.5, all beverages tested in this experiment presented significant erosive potential. Key words: tooth erosion, erosive potential, pH, acid titrability, pro- duct surveillance.Downloads
