Abstract

For the development of this investigation, a sample of54 whiteskinned children with "normal tooth occlusion", without previous orthodontic treatment, being 27 boys and 27 girls, at 6 and 7 years of age, all of them born from Brazilian parents, with German, . ltalian, Portuguese and Spanish genetic components, was selected. The sample was obtained by clinical examination and analysis of orthodontic documentation of 2000 students from municipal, state and private schools from Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Bythe cephalometrictracings obtained from radiographs in lateral norm ofthe sample, it was proposed: 1. To know the mean values of Ricketts cephalometric variables in males and females at 6 and 7years of age; 2. To compare the results obtainedin Passo Fundo,RioGrande do Sul, with the ones obtained in the city of Bauru, São Paulo. After statisticalanalysisofthe results itwas concluded that: 1. The normality mean values were determined for Ricketts cephalometric largeness, validforfemalesand males at 6 and 7 years of age; 2. By comparing the mean values of the largenesses determined in Passo Fundo and the ones verified in Bauru, it was concluded that southern children are more overshot with protruded inferior incisors.
