Abstract

Objective: This work aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the clinicopathological aspects, diagnosis and treatment of the main pathologies that affect the salivary glands. Materials and methods: A search was carried out for scientific articles published between 2014 and 2024, using the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), US National Library of Medicine (PubMed) and Google Scholar databases. The collection of articles was carried out in English and Portuguese, using the keywords: "salivary gland diseases", "salivary gland neoplasms", "mucus extravasation phenomenon", "salivary gland diseases", "salivary gland neoplasms " and " mucus extravasation phenomenon". Conclusion: Salivary glands and saliva are essential for health, influencing digestion, protecting teeth, and maintaining oral integrity. It is essential that dental surgeons have knowledge about the pathologies that affect these glands, in order to carry out early diagnoses and effective interventions. In this way, contributing to the promotion of patients’ oral and systemic health.
